Radial shock waves with ShockMaster

ShockMaster is a shock wave therapy technology that uses acoustic waves to effectively treat chronic musculoskeletal pain. This non-invasive therapy stimulates the healing of damaged tissue, improves blood circulation and reduces inflammation. It is used to treat a range of conditions, such as tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, heel spurs and chronic back pain.

Radial shock waves are high-pressure mechanical waves emitted by an electro-pneumatic system and transmitted through the surface of the skin to the various pathological tissues. The body reacts by increasing the metabolism of the treated area, which stimulates the healing process. This technique allows calcifications to be reabsorbed and reduces sensitivity to pain.

We have been using this technique every day since 2003; the results are very encouraging, as we achieve recovery in over 90% of cases, particularly for the shoulder and epicondylitis (tennis elbow).

Radial shock wave therapy is indicated in the treatment of many conditions, including

• Calcific or non-calcific tendinitis of the shoulder
• Epicondylitis or tennis elbow
• Epitrochleitis or golfer's elbow
• Achilles tendinitis
• Patellar tendinitis

• Adductor tendinitis
• Dr Kervin's tendinopathies
• Insertional tendinopathies
• Calcific tendinitis of the gluteus medius
• Plantar fasciitis and heel spurs

Our patients receive conventional treatment for tendinopathies (Cyriax, hooking, cryotherapy, MTP, etc.). At the end of the session, we apply 2,000 pulses to the area to be treated at a frequency of 8 to 12 Hz.

The patient is generally treated twice a week.

A non-INAMI contribution of €10 is requested per session. This corresponds to the rental of the machine. Since September 2010, some health insurance funds have reimbursed this treatment at €10 per session, up to a maximum of 8 sessions per year.
